Esteemed Buddhist friends and virtuous individuals,
Recently, we have learned that regions such as Myanmar and Thailand have been struck by earthquakes, causing significant damage to many lives and homes. Here, on behalf of all colleagues at the Lumbini International Buddhist Research Center, we extend our deepest sympathy and care to the people in the affected areas.
Earthquakes, as a natural phenomenon, often exceed human control with their immense power. However, in Buddhism, we believe that all phenomena are the result of the interplay of causes and conditions, including natural disasters. In the face of such disasters, we must not only have the courage and wisdom to deal with them but also the compassion and love to care for and assist those affected.
Here, we call on all Buddhist friends and virtuous individuals to join us in praying for the people in the affected areas. Let us, with the most sincere hearts, recite the Buddha’s name, chant mantras, and read scriptures, passing on our compassion and blessings to those who are suffering. May the light of the Buddha’s wisdom illuminate their minds and may the power of the Bodhisattva’s compassion alleviate their pain.

Prayer:
Namo Shakyamuni Buddha Namo Avalokiteshvara, the Great Compassionate One Namo Ksitigarbha, the Earth Store Bodhisattva
May the merit from this practice adorn the Buddha’s Pure Land, Repaying the kindness of parents, teachers, the Three Jewels, and all sentient beings, May all who see and hear develop the mind of enlightenment, And may we all be reborn together in the Pure Land in this very life.
May the people in the affected areas soon be free from suffering, rebuild their homes, and may their spirits find solace and their lives return to peace. May all rescue workers be safe and the rescue efforts proceed smoothly.
At the same time, we encourage everyone to actively participate in the rescue efforts, whether through donations, material contributions, or volunteer services. Every effort is valuable. Let us stand side by side and practice the spirit of Buddhist compassion with concrete actions.
In Buddhism, we believe in the law of cause and effect, where good deeds lead to good results, and bad deeds lead to bad results. Let us use this disaster as an opportunity to cherish life, peace, and everything we have more deeply. Let us treat all sentient beings with a compassionate heart, face all difficulties with a wise heart, and practice the Buddha’s teachings with a steadfast heart.
Finally, let us once again pray for the people in the earthquake-stricken areas of Myanmar, Thailand, and beyond, may they soon emerge from the shadow of disaster and welcome new hope and light.
